Underarms Waxing Aftercare: What to Do (First 48 Hours)
By Brazilian Wax concept | October 29, 2026
I’ll start with the one rule that protects your result the most: keep your underarms cool, clean, and dry for the first 24 to 48 hours. I’m known for being gentle and talking you through every step so you know what to expect, but after you leave, sweat and friction are what usually trigger irritation. In Indialantic’s humid coastal weather, that matters even more.
Quick note: Underarms waxing is a fast service for me, and I’ll tweeze any strays if needed so you leave smooth. The goal with aftercare is simple: don’t undo that clean result by irritating freshly-waxed skin.
Your first 24 to 48 hours after an armpit wax (do this, skip that)
Right after waxing, your hair follicles are open and your skin is extra reactive. The best aftercare is boring, and that’s a good thing.
Do this
- Keep the area clean and dry. A quick rinse is fine. Pat dry, don’t rub.
- Wear breathable fabric. Loose tops help reduce friction right where you were waxed.
- Use a cool compress for 5 to 10 minutes if you feel heat, tenderness, or mild swelling.
- If you have to use deodorant, wait. Give your skin time to calm first. If you can skip it for a day, even better.
Skip this
- Workouts, hot yoga, heavy sweating, and long runs for the first 24 hours.
- Hot showers and baths the first day. Keep water lukewarm and quick.
- Pools and ocean time for at least 24 to 48 hours. Saltwater and chlorine tend to sting freshly-waxed underarms, especially in Indialantic when humidity keeps skin damp.
- Alcohol-based or heavily fragranced deodorants, body sprays, and perfumed lotions right away.
If you’re planning a beach day, boating, or a festival in the Indialantic downtown and Beachtown area, try booking early morning or late afternoon so you’re not sweating in the heat right after your wax. And if you’re searching for waxing near me because you need a quick clean-up, this is the part that keeps it comfortable.
Days 3 to 7: keep underarms calm, then prevent ingrowns the right way
Most people feel normal again pretty fast. Mild redness or a little swelling is common right after an armpit waxing appointment, then it usually settles within a day or two. The bigger issue I see is people getting impatient and scrubbing too soon.
First, protect the skin barrier
For the first 72 hours, keep it simple. No exfoliating gloves. No acids. No retinol. No perfumed body creams. Your underarms are thin-skinned, plus they’re a high-friction zone. Give them a few days to settle so you don’t trigger bumps.
Then, start ingrown prevention after 3 to 5 days
After day 3 (sometimes day 5 if you’re sensitive), gentle exfoliation helps hair grow out cleanly. I like a soft washcloth in the shower, light pressure only. If you prefer a chemical exfoliant, keep it mild and don’t combine it with other active products. Moisturize daily with something fragrance-free so the new growth doesn’t get trapped under dry skin.
Why I’m picky about this: I’m thorough during the service, including tweezing any remaining hairs when needed. If you keep the skin calm afterward, that smooth result lasts longer. One underarms client even told me their wax can last about a month and a half when they stay consistent.
The only product types I want on your underarms after waxing
You don’t need a shelf full of products. You need the right type of product, used at the right time.
For the first 48 to 72 hours
- Fragrance-free soothing gel (aloe-based or calendula-based).
- Mild cleanser (simple soap, no strong fragrance).
- Alcohol-free deodorant, only after the skin has calmed down.
Avoid for at least 3 days
- Scrubs and exfoliating mitts.
- Retinols and strong acne products near the area.
- Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and other strong acids.
- Heavy perfume and body spray in the underarm area.
If you’re unsure about a product, bring it in or tell me what you’re using. Clients tell me they appreciate that I’m informative about aftercare, and I’d rather answer a quick question than have you deal with irritation.
Red flags vs normal healing, plus how to reach me fast
A little redness, mild swelling, and tenderness are normal right after waxing. Small pinpoint bumps can also happen, especially if you run hot or sweat easily. Most of the time, it calms down with cool compresses and leaving the skin alone.
Reach out to me, and also contact a healthcare professional urgently, if you notice:
- Redness that keeps spreading instead of calming down.
- Worsening pain, heat, or swelling after the first day.
- Pus, fever, or a rash that looks angry and raised.
- Any sign of infection.

One simple habit that makes underarms waxing feel easier each time
Consistency beats perfection. Underarms respond really well when you keep a steady schedule and don’t bounce between shaving and waxing. Shaving between appointments can make hair growth uneven, and that often means more sensitivity next time.
When you come in, I work quickly but I don’t rush you. People tell me they feel comfortable, and that matters because tension makes waxing feel sharper. Pair that with solid aftercare, and you usually get smoother skin with less drama in the days after.
